Movie Reviews

Hi guys! Uh oh! 2 more days till we say sayonara forever to 2009. Isn't it crazy? I mean I was just 10 years old yesterday thinking the 2000's were like eons away, now we are a decade in? I am not complaining sha, at least I am alive. Sooo, as I am channeling my inner bum and doing nothing, I have been watching movies like they have been going out of style so I thought I'd share my thoughts with you and you can decide if you'll see it or not.

PRINCESS AND THE FROG: For those that have missed the hand drawn cartoon days a la Aladdin, Little Mermaid (remember those days in naija of just memorizing and singing disney tunes, or was that just me?). Anyways, it seems Disney got nostalgic too and went back to their originals and wait for it...they made the character black, lol. The movie was cute and was a typical disney affair, full of song and dance especially since it was set in Louisiana with lots of jazz music. I especially loved Ray the Firefly and his Evangeline. Nothing really spectacular or different but if you are looking to smile and reminisce, you'll enjoy it. - Go see it.

BROKEN EMBRACES: Yet another collaboration between Penelope Cruz and Pedro Aldomavar. This was a spanish movie that reminded me of their last collabo, "Volver". The movie itself is a laid back affair with a lot of its messages delivered through strong but subtle scenes where it's up to the audience to decide what they feel. It's basically about a writer who was seeking revenge for something done to him many years ago after having an affair with his boss's wife. - DVD it.

FANTASTIC MR FOX: With the voices of George Clooney and Meryl Streep, I actually didn't expect to like this movie as I did. The story of a cunning fox who made a living out of stealing chickens and stopped when his wife got pregnant. He picks it up again and gets into more wahala than anticipated. You can almost see George Clooney on screen instead of the character he is voicing, because the fox is that charming. All in all, director Wes Anderson(Royal Tenenbaums, Where the Wild Things Are) hit a home run with this. - Go see it.

YOUNG VICTORIA
: The story of the beginnings of the youngest queen to take the throne and her marriage to Prince Albert. Again, some might say I am hard to please but it was an okay movie and didn't suck. I know personally that I don't care for victorian movies because they are usually the same format. Some surly or liberated girl for her time, some man she is interested in, some country or feuding parties, some talk of marriage etc. This wasn't any different but I'll give it props that it was well done. It's what I'd call a textbook movie, everything was done by the book, nothing exciting. Produced by Sarah Ferguson (former duchess of York) and Martin Scorcese, it's worth watching even if it's on dvd. - Dvd it.

THE MESSENGER: Indie movie starring Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster. It's the story of two military men whose jobs it is to inform people that their loved ones have been killed in action and one of the men falls in like with one of the women he delivered the news to. Some would see this as depressing, which it is but I liked this movie, it made me remember the people out there in Iraq and all the people it affects. Go see it.

AVATAR: Everybody and their mama has been raving about this movie, as I heard it described it was a "visual orgasm". A friend of mine was so sure I would hate the movie but I liked it. 15 years James Cameron has been slaving over this movie, he created a special camera for this, he hired linguists to make up the language used for the Navi people, he had so much pressure to prove he was still the "King of the World", did he come out victorious? Yes he did. If there was anything to pick on about the movie, it would be the plot but you have to remember the kind of movie and can't expect anything great. If he had delivered an intelligent plot he would have alienated the "see it 3 times" audience because sad as it is, our nation is dumbing down and we always have to present things at the simplest of levels. I think Cameron spent so much time on the graphics and visual image that we are supposed to forgive the simple plot and just keep it rolling, but the plot wasn't terrible so we can keep it moving. At a certain point, I had a "Am I watching Pocahontas?" moment but I got over that. Everyone said to watch it in 3d but I think I would still have enjoyed it even if it wasn't 3d. I do have to say that this year was the year of naija sha, see as the marine commander had to mention that he fought in Nigeria, lol. Go see it.

UP IN THE AIR - This was a really, good movie. Especially if you are like me. In your twenties and just asking yourself over and over again, "What's the point?". The movie shows the different view points of life between George Clooney's older character who enjoys living life solo and spends his life flying here and there firing people and Anna Kendrick's twenty something year old character who has a life plan and is quite uptight. Clooney meets his match when he meets Vera Farmiga's character, the movie unfolds and we get to know George and Anna's characters and their backgrounds and we also see how they begin to realize that maybe they don't have it all figured out. I just kept wondering what was going through George Clooney's mind since in real life he is anti-marriage and anti-kids. Anyway, Jason Reitman(the director) is on a roll after Thank you for Smoking and Juno, he has made it a triple with Up in the Air. - Definitely go see it.

IT'S COMPLICATED: Meryl Streep can do no wrong even if she tried and neither can the new Alec Baldwin. Yet this movie wasn't it for me. It had it's funny moments and its quirky moments but something about it was scattered and I can't lay my finger on it.Maybe, it was that I would think that people in their 60's or whatever age they were would have their life more together than these characters did. I don't know but it's Nancy Meyer (something's gotta give)'s latest effort in old people romance about a woman whose husband leaves her for a woman half his age and then begins an affair with his ex wife while she starts a romance with her architect?(did that make sense?). go dvd it.

I am wishing you wonderful people of blogsville a happy happy new year. I wish you all that you wish yourself with the blessings of our Lord to complete it, have a wonderful day and be safe and in the meantime enjoy the following mashup, it's the top 25 songs of 2009 in 5 minutes. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

End of an Era

I don't know about you guys but when I got to America, I got sucked into the Soap Opera world. I was very surprised to learn how long they had been on air and they came on every day as opposed to every week. It wasn't the best of material but somehow they were addictive. That was a long time ago, fast forward to today and it looks like yet another thing is being driven to extinction and that is the shelf life of soap operas.

It first started with the cancellation of Passions, then Port Charles, then Guiding Light( the longest running) and now my beloved As the World Turns. I was addicted to all the CBS soaps except Young and Restless. For years, I recorded these soaps everyday and wasted 3 hours of my life catching up (not counting my regularly scheduled tv shows). I decided that it was not productive and decided to give up my beloved soaps for Lent and hope it stuck. It worked and I was cured of my addiction.

So even though, I haven't watched them in years, it's still pretty sad to hear that they are being cancelled. I am not sure if it's the fact that they are leaving or if it's that it symbolizes how quickly the world is evolving and things that have been staples are slowly being phased away which in turn reminds me that I am getting older. I don't know which it is, but I have no doubt that TV stations will soon decide that soaps are not necessary and will phase them out. Well before they do *raises glass* Here is to the soaps with their out of this world story lines that kept me entertained, the hardworking and under recognised actors who had to learn their lines in way shorter time than most and for being the starting ground for most A-list actors now (Morgan Freeman, Julianne Moore, Nia Long etc).

In other news, go get Banky W's "The W experience" and unless you are still mad at him Chris Brown's "Grafitti". Pretty hot albums.

Enjoy this new video from Duncan Daniels, pretty catchy song and my boo (M.I incase you didn't know) is on it :

R.I.P Guys.

Hi people, the year is slowly winding to a close and I thank God that we still have life. However we happened to lose a number of celebrities this year. I listed below the few that I could recall.

Natasha Richardson - wife of Liam Neeson, died March 18 after suffering head injuries from a ski trip.

Bea Arthur - who played Dorothy on "Golden Girls" died April 25 of cancer right before she turned 87.

Ed McMahon - He was the famous announcer for Johnny Carson with the "heeeeeere's Johnny" slogan. After facing, eviction issues he died June 23 at 86.

Farrah Fawcett - She was most famous for Charlie's Angels even though she was only in the first season of the show. She died June 25 at 62 after unsuccessfully trying alternative healing from cancer.

Michael Jackson - Probably the most famous death of this year, King of Pop died on June 25 also from a combination of medication given to him by his doctor.

David Carradine - most famous for being the bad guy in "Kill Bill". He was found on June 4 in a Bangkok hotel room. Cause of death: Asphyxiation. You do the math.

Walter Cronkite - The famous CBS newsman died on July 17 at 92

John Hughes - You may not know him but you have definitely heard of his work. The man behind "16 candles" and "Pretty in Pink" died of cardiac arrest on August 6 at age 59.

DJ AM - He rose to fame for dating Nicole Richie and when he survived a plane crash with Travis Barker. AM battled drug problems and was found dead in his apartment from an overdose on August 28 at age 36.

Patrick Swayze - If you haven't seen "Ghost" or "Dirty Dancing", I don't know what to tell you. But Patrick was the star of both movies and he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at age 57 on September 14.

E.Lynn Harris - the famous black writer who lived his life as an openly gay man which was usually a subject in most of his books died July 23 from a heart attack.

Ted Kennedy - the famous, loudspoken congressman from the famous Kennedy clan lost his life to a brain tumor.

Here's sending out condolences to their family and friends left behind and hoping their souls rest in peace.

Grammy Nominees

So, the Grammy Nominees were announced yesterday and I don't even know how I feel. First, I should say that the Grammys have lost their credit. I mean they've created so many categories that anyone can call themselves a Grammy Nominated Artist ( I mean alleged child molester, Pleasure P (formerly of Pretty Ricky) is a nominee this year). For the last couple of years unfailingly, undeserving albums have gotten album of the year ( they are almost always given to lesser known, older peoples/bands). I don't know if they think there is some rep they are trying to maintain but it's just pretty annoying. I read an article today that pretty much sums up how I feel :

Stuff in parentheses are my words.

"This gripe is nothing new; independent-leaning music has long been largely ignored, overshadowed by several different factions, including a) classic rock bands who were overlooked when they were good getting nominated for comeback albums that are decent at best (think Green Day and U2) b) the most successful album of that given year (think Taylor Swift, Black Eyed Peas) c) formerly independent bands that took over the mainstream (think Kings of Leon) and d) the second, third and fourth most successful album of that given year ( the Lady Gaga, Beyonce etc).

I mean the Grammys got some things right, I am forever faithful to BEP and Lady Gaga and I think they were deserving. Keri Hilson deserves her best new artist nomination but I'm sure most people will be like "who are these" for the others. Heck even I don't know who MGMT is and as far as I knew Silver Sun Pickups had an album a while back *shrugs. I am happy about Maxwell too. I think the biggest shocker to me was Drake not being nominated for best new artist. I mean did anyone have a bigger year than he did?? What do I know?

Anyways if you want to check out the full list of grammy nominees, you can see it here : http://www.grammy.com/grammy_awards/52nd_show/list.aspx

Have a great weekend.

It's Igbo day, Dammit!

Ndeewo my people. Eh hen, Kedu ka unu mee? If you didn't understand my greetings, ndo. Today, I am vexing and declaring it Igbo day. As we all know, there are not a lot of mainstream naija songs in Igbo, the ones we manage to hear sef have only a few lines of Igbo. As the true Igbo daughter that I am, I have decided to pay homage to my fellow Igbonians. I shall be posting some naija songs(old and new) that have Igbo in them. Listen and enjoy and hope you find one or two to add to your playlist.

P.S - I would like some feedback please. For the most part, I don't think people are interested in my music posts but I will still do them anyways but I'd like to know if you'd prefer I post music with the youtube videos attached or just list the song title and name of song. Please let me know. Have a good day!

My current favorite naija song (first verse is in Igbo)- Temperaure Rise by Big Dreams ft Pype (I am still amazed as to how this dude sounds just like Sean Paul)

">

I just love that "Ukwu nka na gbaka m'isi" part. Ogini na fio!: Kelly Handsome - Like Play

">

Sweet sweet Igbo love song with my darling favorite rapper. Obi mu o - Obiwon

U is for Underrated

If you don't recognize the man in the picture, I'll give you a second to slap yourself, wait for the sting to stop and come back to reading

*waiting*

Back? Aiight, Well the man above is British born Chiwetel Ejiofor. As you may have noticed he has a Nigerian name, an Igbo name to be exact. Usually the more common version of his name is Chiwetalu but his happens to be Chiwetel, they mean the same thing (God's gift or literally translated to God brought(good things). I am not sure why he dropped the U, but I decided to take the U and believe that it stands for Underrated.

I was just thinking the other day about his body of work and the man is truly talented. He has range and does a variety of roles ranging from the husband in Love Actually, transvestite in Kinky Boots or radio exec in Talk to Me. I don't really know much about his personal life and I don't think anyone does and that's a good thing. I think that's what adds to his great portrayal of characters in his movies. You are able to just focus on him and not be distracted by any tabloid gossip or unnecessary gist. Well, I don't have much to say about him, I just wanted to shine light on my fellow Nigerian brotha (hehe) and have more people exposed to his talent. Below are the movies of his I have seen that I recommend to everyone:

Dirty Pretty Things
Love Actually
She Hate Me
Melinda and Melinda
Four Brothers
Kinky Boots
Inside Man
CHildren of Men
Talk to Me
American Gangster
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got hooked up by a friend with advance screening passes to see "Precious". I don't have anything to say but when it comes out in your hood - GO.SEE.IT!

Have a lovely weekend people!

The Black Extinction

So, I am not one to pull the race card at all, so I won't but I have to say that when I was doing my blog entry for best new tv shows, it really hit me that there is absolutely NO black tv show on network television besides Brothers (not unless you want to include The Cleveland Show, which is an animated show). How can this be?? Granted TV shows aren't what they usually are but it had me thinking. They keep saying that we are progressing as a nation in terms of race but I don't know if I personally agree with that. I think the world just knows how to cover it up better and we've reached a point where we are not even sure if something is racist or not. I sorta digress, but I think this might or might not be one of the examples.

I got to this country in 1999. Over the years, there were a lot of black sitcoms on tv - Sister, Sister, Wayans Brothers, Parenthood, My Wife and Kids etc etc. Fast forward 10 years and nothing. How did this happen? Check your tv stations and check out the number of syndicated black sitcoms on tv - Good Times, Cosby Show, The Jeffersons, Martin, Living Single the list goes on and on. What I want to note is that these T.V shows were on air for longer than one season. They lasted for years AND were doing well in the ratings. What changed? Ladies and Gentlemen, it was a slow phase out. The major networks suddenly dropped all major black cast tv shows and we were relegated to only WB and UPN. Then they decide to merge and only about 4 shows were left including the ever popular Girlfriends and The Game. All of a sudden, "ratings were low" and these shows were cancelled. Girlfriends (which is a very well written show) didn't even have the dignity of a series finale.

Okay, I don't buy this b.s that they call Nielsen Ratings because as big of a TV addict as I am, no one has ever asked about my tv watching habits. Who are the people being measured? How are they getting these numbers? This is the reason that's always given when you ask why a show was cancelled but in Taynement's ratings, almost every black person I knew watched Girlfriends and The Game (BET picked this up and will start airing new eps in 2010). I did not forget about The Wire which was on HBO (not network tv) and was critically one of the best shows on T.V but even then, the show never got any recognition from any of the major awards shows.

I don't have access to any studio exec but my assumption is that they a lot of black shows will not transcend the black audience and cross over to the white audience. If my assumption is right, then it's gonna be a long time before we see any on TV. I think it's kind of sad for younger kids not to see faces that look like them on T.V.

So what do you guys think? DO you think that in this day and age we can have an all black show that will actually stay on air?

MOVIE REVIEWS

NEW YORK I LOVE YOU : I was so excited to see this movie and I was let down. The stories just seemed odd, even for short stories and didn't have the romanticism that its French equivalent had - Je T'aime Paris. I only like 3 of the stories and sorry to bring in politics but it was kind of hard to watch a movie about love in new york (supposed melting pot) and there were no stories centered on gay people or black people ( hey, the indians, jewish, chinese, brits etc were represented)

GOOD HAIR : Ok, how do I review this movie? Ok, remember that Chimamanda video where she said : The problem with stereotypes isn't that they are untrue but they are incomplete? That about sums up the movie. Yes, it was true but I am a black woman so I know wassup, but any other person will leave the theater with totally wrong idea. I don't know if I can give examples without spoilers. My friend that I went with felt like it set us back and a lady walking out the theater with us thought it was trash lol. I really feel that's the only way Chris could probably get the movie greenlit (with exaggeration) but besides that it was an entertaining movie.

THE INVENTION OF LYING : Enjoyable romantic comedy. It was basically showing a world where there were no lies and asking if you'd choose your life partner based on looks or what makes you happy (if he is not so goodlooking). Ricky Gervais is already a comedic genius so I was expecting to like it and I did.

Just sayin'

Who the hell says this? :

I like fucking ass! Ain’t nothin’ like the butthole. The ass is a delicacy, goddamn it. I’d put hot sauce on it. When you eat the brown hole, that’s when her toes do this. [sticks legs out and curls toes] You got to be willing to do anything to please your woman, to satisfy her. I didn’t invent it. You think I was the first one to think of having anal sex with a girl? Hell, no. I’m quite sure Adam fucked Eve in the ass. In the Garden of Eden he tore her ass up, and she was screaming like a motherfucker.”

My goodness, TRACY MORGAN IRKS THE SHIT OUT OF ME, UGHHH!!!!.

This is what a stomach should look like :

I need New Moon to come out and disappear of the face of the earth. Ugh.

Pamela Anderson needs to be on watch. What for? I don't know, but something ain't right.

Brad Pitt got into a motorcycle crash but he is okay now.

Hulk Hogan says that Laila Ali saved him from committing suicide.

Rumor has it that Rosie O'Donnell and her partner, Kelly are split. Rosie says they are working on their problems but haven't broken up.

Raven Update

Just wanted to update that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me and Raven did lose weight:

In theaters this weekend:

Saw IV

Astro Boy

Cirque du Freak : Vampire's Assistant

Amelia

REVIEW:

COUPLES RETREAT

This movie about 4 couples who go to an island to rejuvenate their relationship was definitely overhyped. I thought it was just okay. Vince Vaughn was his usual fast talking self, there were a few chuckles but other than that it was just a typical romantic comedy that I would say is better to get on DVD.

Have a lovely weekend.

My recommended TV shows

x=400&sig=pSYmQPD5cdrZV3taC7u4jg--" border="0" alt="" />

The Fall TV season is not new anymore, cancellations have occurred (southland, beautiful life) and many more are sure to follow, but the season still had some new shows that are worth watching. And because I am so awesome, I watch so much tv just so I can share this with my neighbors aka YOU..yes you! lol. Alright, here are some new TV shows that I think are worth watching.

THE CLEVELAND SHOW

I am actually not a family guy junkie and only catch it as my absolutely LAST option but I was curious to catch The Cleveland Show after I caught the actors who voice the characters on "Inside the Actors Studio" (Seth McFarlane is a cutieee!(voice of stewie)and it was interesting that the voice of cleveland is by a white dude. Anywhoo, I like the show, it has cliche jokes and all but its a little different, I mean their neighbors are bears with an unplaced foreign accent. Sanaa Lathan voices the wife and Nia Long was the teenage daughter, she unexpectedly dropped out and is replaced by Reagan Gomez-Preston(chic in TI's "whatever you like video".

Fun Fact: There is only ONE african american show on TV - The Brothers(which will probably get cancelled). That show is subpar, so if you have to show support to your people watch the Cleveland show :D

MODERN FAMILY

GLEE!

My absolute personal favorite new show(Yes, I added the ! myself, because that's how I say it in my head). WHat's not to like about this show? cute guys, awesome song covers, funny jokes (especially from Jane Lynch - Taynement predicts award nominations for her)and its by Ryan Murphy (the awesome fellow who does my favorite show - Nip/Tuck)...and I'm done selling. If you still choose not to watch..YOUR LOSS!

THE MIDDLE

Patricia Heaton is back as a "spread too thin" wife and mother in the middle of America trying to hold herself and her family together. besides her, her braced daughter and her adorably cute nerdy(and strange son) make the show a winner.

Honorable mentions ( meaning I don't watch but I hear it's good)

The Good Wife
Flashforward (basically if you like Lost, you'll like this)

That's all folks if you have any new favorites, feel free to share, although I think my tv calender is full...lol who am I kidding, there's always room for more lol ( I wasn't kidding when I told you I needed rehab)

P.S The original mama-jammers are coming back - Real Housewives of Orange County returns on Nov 5.

Have a good one people!

Let's talk music shall we?

Rihanna's new joint, Russian Roulette. Yay or Nay? I haven't decided but if i had to pick right now, I'd say yay. Kinda like Unfaithful. Either you loved it or hated it.

">

Gary Go - Wonderful...I can totally understand if you are not feeling it. I get that a lot, lol. But I really like this song. If you are not feeling the beat, the lyrics are kinda positive for when you are down in the dumps after that break up.
SAMPLE LYRICS :
And all your ammunition’s gone
Run out of fuel to carry on
You don’t know what you wanna do
Cause what you want does not want you
If what you want does not want you
And you’ve got no pull to pull you through

Say “I am”
Say “I am”
Say “I am wonderful"

Say “I am”
Say “I am”
Say “I am wonderful"

">

I have to mention a song from my darling backstreet boys' new album (which none of y'all bought! *makes mad face*. The album really isn't bad, I swear! lol
Backstreet boys - If I knew then

">

Chris Brown ft Weezy and Swiss Beatz - Yes, he beat Music Mention #1 but I can separate business from personal. Me likes the song.

">

Gucci Mane ft Trina and Nicki Minaj...so I had never heard of a gucci mane till now and apparently I am late, he is suddenly everywhere. I especially like Nicki Minaj (new first lady of Weezy's lady, also the lady with the questionable big ass), feel free to fast forward to her part, she raps last. She kinda reminds me of Lauren London. hmmm who happens to be Weezy's baby mama..hmmm let me stop.

">

Three days Grace - Break ...see my rock heads, I didn't forget you

">

Brick and Lace - Boyfriend...guys aren't the only ones who choose not to be exclusive

">

KIG - Head, shoulders, knees and toes....its kinda old but gotta get stuff from my jand peeps..oya ladies, lemme see you get down low!

">

Carrie Underwood - Cowboy Casanova..Yeehaw to my country music lovers out there..Ms Underwood is back with her newest single. sorry everything had embedding disabled.

Adam Lambert - Time for miracles (from 2012 soundtrack)...the AI runnerup belts out his famous squeal on this song.

">

Dare ft 9ice - style na style...gotta put one in for my naija peeps.

">

As you all may know, I could do this all day, so I'll stop now. Have a lovey day!

Taynement Tid Bits

- So Khloe Kardashian has reached an agreement for her prenup, yay! (rolls eyes). These are the details :

If the duo were to split, Khloe reportedly wants a flat sum of approximately $500,000 for each year they were married in addition to $25,000 a month in general support. She has also reportedly requested that she receive their new house, which the couple will be purchasing soon. In addition to outright cash, Khloe has reportedly requested a new luxury vehicle at the end of every lease cycle, $5,000 a month for shopping, $1,000 for beauty care and Lakers courtside tickets for her entire family. ----- If this isn't love, then what is it my people? Na wa!

- Continuing in the "I will not be outdone by my sister" cycle, Kourtney Kardashian's house has apparently been burglarized and $80,000 worth of jewelry was taken....Please forgive me if I am blaze about this.

- Might as well complete the circle. Kim celebrated her birthday in Vegas. Have I mentioned before that this chic is just too hot..too bad she can't dance.

- If you watch the hills, stephanie pratt was arrested for a DUI.

- If you watch Real Housewives:NewYork, Bethany has FINALLY found her the one and is engaged.

- Rumor has it that SOulja Boy is with Trina???

- Looks like Raven Symone lost some weight. yay? nay?

T.V Ratings

So I admit, I watch entirely TOO much tv. How I function in life I don't know (anyone heard of tv rehab?). As much TV as I watch, I'll be the first to admit that I don't watch any of them crime dramas - I have never watched a complete episode of Law and Order- yes, you read right. When I first got to this country, NBC was the station with the highest ratings, their must see tv thursday a real help (friends, er etc) but now they are in the toilet, they can't get a hit show to save their lives. Even their most talked about shows (30 rock, Office - which by the way you guys need to start watching!) have shit ratings. CBS that was last is now the leading station and its lineup is filled with dem crime dramas - Cold Case, CSI : Miami, NewYork, Aba, Owerri etc, Criminal Minds etc. Who watches NCIS?? Well Ladies and Gentlemen, apparently a lot of america does, it is currently the highest rated show. I have the highest rated shows listed below, see how your shows are faring :

1. NCIS/CBS/7PM, TUESDAY/21.4 MILLION VIEWERS
2. SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL/NBC/18.4 MILLION
3. NCIS: LOS ANGELES/CBS/8PM, TUESDAY/17.4 MILLION
4. DANCING WITH THE STARS/ABC/7PM MONDAY/17 MILLION
5. CSI/CBS/8PM, THURSDAY/15.9 MILLION
6. THE MENTALIST/CBS/9PM, THURSDAY/15.8 MILLION
7. GREYS ANATOMY/ABC/8PM, THURSDAY/15.7 million
8. HOUSE/FOX/7PM, MONDAY/14.7 MILLION

MUSIC TIDBIT : So in the new song, Drop it low by Ester Dean. There's a cameo with Nelly and he is talking to someone about a furry thong and then says, "Hold on Obama". That implies he was talking to Obama and I find that very disrespectful. I mean yes our president is black but please let's create some boundaries. Besides that sha the song is hot, check it out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3-nRc0yHdQ.

Also check out Chris Brown's song, I can transform you - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQX-6nSLjjA

FASHION
So although she looks like an anorexic, I liked Katy Perry's look:

What are y'all's thoughts on booties?

Paula Patton

MISCELLENOUS

Your thoughts on Serena's nude cover?

- Promos for Rihanna's comeback have a tagline of "The wait is OVA" which I assume is in reference to Jayz's Hova..err, na wa for this kain protegee-ness.

- Keshia Cole's mother, Frankie needs to dissapear from the spotlight. ASAP!

- So if you get a chance you can check out my thesis on Mrs.Carter - Beyonce . One of my theories is that she cannot be outdone. If you watced the video awards this year, you will notice that Lady Gaga had one of the best performances and was being talked about, what does Ms. B do? She nags Lady Gaga to come do a video with her for her single "Video Phone" ( isn't this a repeat of Shakira and Justin?).I'm telling y'all, I am on to something :D

Have a lovely week ahead peoples and if you have any pop culture related questions, feel free to ask either by email or in the comment section. Even if I don't know the answer, I'll find it for ya!

Celeb Wedding Talk

So yup, Khloe Kardashian sho as hell did marry L.A Laker, Lamar Odom. I mean Happy Married Life to them but like almost everyone else I am skeptical about it. With their track record, why do this celebs rush to marriage, it's not a religious thing so why not just shack up. I guess what makes me more skeptical is on Khloe's show, they just did an episode where she said how she doesn't trust men and her last boyfriend Rashad McCants(pic below), an NBA player, cheated on her and told her that he was with her for publicity. All that added together makes it all the more puzzling that these two got married a month after meeting.

Rashad McCants with Khloe

.

So the other day on Chelsea Lately, they were saying how these Kardashian sisters like to outdo each other and it seems so. First, Kim had the sex tape, then Kourtney decides to get pregnant and Khloe says I won't be left out and has a shotgun wedding. Seems the cycle is going again because it looks like Kim decided to go visit Reggie Bush immediately after the ceremony in the matching sweat suits the Kardashian sisters wore after the wedding. Yea that would keep the paparazzi away.

Kim in her Maid of Honor threads ( this chick is hot!)

In other celeb wedding news:

Jamie Pressley(My name is Earl) married entertainment lawyer, Simran Singh

Justin Guarini (American Idol runnerup) also got married.

CELEB SPLITS

Fred Durst and his wife split after three months

Emmy Rossum(Phantom of the Menace) split from her husband(he filed and is requesting she pay all the costs)

Fun FACT

Elvis Presley is the highest earning dead celeb and dead celebs are called - Delebs.lol

Have a lovely night.

FASHION

We all know that at the VMA awards Shakira and Pink both wore the same dress. To me there's no question that Shakira wore it better but let me ask y'all your opinion - "Who walked it?":

Also this is my look of the week. I think Kerry Washington looks pretty:

BREAKUP NEWS : Avril Lavigne and her husband of 3 years Deryck Whibley from SUm 41 have split up. I don't know why these people never seem to realise that getting married especially at a young age in the industry is not a good idea. Ah well hope they get through it soon.

Masters of Reception on TLC @ 10/9c
Jay Leno Show has Drew Barrymore as a guest @10/9c
ALMA Awards (awards latinos on tv) on ABC @8/7c

Have a lovely weekend!

First!

Hey guys, so if you are here you must have followed by other blog (taynement.blogspot.com). Anyways, some of y'all might know I am a pop culture head. I kinda deviated from my other blog, so I decided to open a new one solely devoted to all things popculture and entertainment. I hope to bring news (both useful and useless ones) and convinience. So feel free to support me and come by here whenever. I might be shaky at first but I hope to get better. For my first post, I'll list out movies that are coming out this weekend. Enjoy!

COMING OUT FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18TH:

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS : Based on a children's book about a scientist trying to solve world hunger.

THE INFORMANT : starring Matt Damon and Joel Mchale (from The Soup): Damon stars as a whistleblower that's well..kinda slow. *Not really my cup of tea, because personally Matt Damon seems to be doing dry movies since Bourne Ultimatum*

JENNIFER'S BODY: Written by my idol Diablo Cody(she wrote Juno), it's about a possesed cheerleader written by Megan "Diarrhea Mouth" Fox. *I love me some Diablo but the movie just seems silly to me. I am just glad it's out so I can stop seeing the ads on tv*

LOVE HAPPENS : starring Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart. Love chicflicks? this is your best bet. Boy meets girl. Not feeling dude at first and will most likely fall in love.

For my Indie lovers, Bright Star starring Abby Cornish ( the lady who came between Ryan Phillipe and Reese WItherspoon), Burning Plain with Charlize Theron and Paris with Juliette Binoche.

Soon as I see any of the movies I would give my review. Movies still in theaters that I would recommend are:

Inglorious Basterds
District 9
I can do bad all by myself

Dvd Recommendation : I love you man

Have a wonderful weekend people!

Song of the Day - Gavin Rossdale, Love remains the same.
